Jingle Bell, Jingle bell Jingle bell Rock. The holidays are here and it is full of green mistletoes, office parties with spiked eggnog, and people hooking up to snuggle and stay warm doing the season. This is the time of year that people share laughs, presents and the common cold. So if this is the season of love why do so many couple call it quits during the end of the year.According to January's issue of Shape, Research shows that 56% of breakups happen between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day; with January being the month that has the highest number of break-ups statically. It’s stated that 6 out of 10 couples will break-up, Damn Capricorns. In this time period we celebrate the holidays with family and friends. Our pockets are low and tension is high.
Relationships tend to go into a “holt” status also known as a “relationship freeze” during the fall season coming into the holidays. Couples subconsciously tend to postpone break up right before Thanksgiving to maintain an appearance to family and friends of either being happy, or as some type of notch on a belt to others. Other reasons are that people would hate to come across as heartless during a time where people are feeling thankful and in the spirits of good deeds. And let's just be for real, who wants to be alone during the holidays in front of other happy couples. Money and gift giving is an area that a lot of men tend to fail in and another added pressure that may just cause the camel back to break. I don’t know how many times I have received a pair of Victoria Secret thongs, which are clearly a gift for him and not me. He says, a gift that we both can enjoy. HA?! Between having to pay daycare, child support, and new outfits; the financial obligations that are on couples during the seasons are tremendous.
Right after communication, money is a HUGE deal breaker in relationships. There’s nothing more frustrating than to watch your partner ball out of control for herself and only buy you a pair of socks, and Fruit of Looms beaters or to watch your man buy six new Xbox games and get you the new Wale Cd, cause he heard you say that “Lotus Flower Bomb” was your Shit. The winter season happens to be a very stressful time of the year. It is the season when people tend to do the most reflecting and observing. People spend a lot of time around people that either bring them down (leading to depression) or want them to do better (maybe I need to upgrade?) giving both parties the opportunity to realize and understand what is really important to them and there happiness. Boyfriends and girlfriends tend to meet the family and let’s be honest, if it was up to our families would we be members? Besides having issues within in your own relationship, family member tend to increase spousal pressure and anxiety, which leads to unnecessary drama!! (Especially when he sister and aunts can’t mind there business and he can’t seem to stick up to them for us.)
To sum it up, the end of the year symbolizes a possible fresh new start for new things to come. So get wise, get refreshed and if your current boo can’t get wit it, cut’em loose. |
